Enjoy the Magic of the Season

Chamber Musings
December 17, 2011

Last evening as I drove around the square, I was struck with how beautiful it looked. So, many times when we around a place every day we tend to take them for granted and over look what we have right in our own home territory. Many of the merchants have wonderful Christmas Cards in their windows. Those that do not have cards, have beautiful displays in their windows. The Allen County Historical Society has a very magical quality to it. It actually looks three dimensional.

Holiday Events

Happy Thanksgiving!

This next week is Thanksgiving already! I would like to take this time and say thank you to all the Iola City Personnel that help get ready for all the holiday activities. Often times we tend to take these folks for granted. Without all the behind the scenes work being done we would not have the beautiful lights, decorations or even Santa’s house. So, on behalf of us at the Chamber we would like to say thank you to the Iola City Personal and Firemen for all of their time and efforts in order for us to make the holiday season a little brighter!

Farm CIty Days

Farm City days has long been a tradition in my family. I remember going with my Grandparents and looking forward to the street dances. Times have changed and the street dance is no more but I still look forward to it every year!  A huge Thank you goes to the foresight of this year’s Grand Marshalls Leon and Dorothy Catron, Gary and Judy Parker and Paul and Dorothy Setter who had the idea to build a strong alliance between city community and the farm community.

A Layoff Alternative

Biblesta Weekend is here!

The idea for Biblesta came to Dr. Arthur Carlson in 1957 while attending a cottage prayer meeting. His church was planning a revival meeting, and everyone was praying that the attendance would be good and that many souls would be saved; however he really did not expect that to happen. While on his knees in prayer, he began imagining a parade that would focus people on the greatest book in the world...the Bible. Right then and there he decided the way to tell others about God was with a Bible Story Parade.

Keaton & Kansas Filmmakers

For the 19th consecutive year The Keaton Celebration will be hosted at the Bowlus Fine Arts Center here in Iola. It starts Friday September 23 and goes through Saturday September 24 2011. This year’s focus will be the Kansas Filmmakers. Kansas has such a rich heritage of film makers that often times get over looked! If you’re a film buff or even if you are not, the Keaton Celebration is a treat for everyone! Panel discussions and movies galore!

River Valley Homes Ribbon Cutting

It was an exciting time as we welcomed the newest members to the Iola Area Chamber of Commerce. River Valley Homes is officially open for tenants! Although most of the homes filled quickly, they may have a property or two still available!  Thanks for letting the Iola Chamber be part of this great occassion.
